Pennsylvania Elections Department Tallies Presidential Write-ins for Virgil Goode and Tom Hoefling

An earlier post today is not completely accurate, but instead of my amending that post (on Pennsylvania presidential write-ins from November 2012) it seems more useful to write a new one. It turns out that the Pennsylvania state Elections Department itself tallied up the write-ins for two particular presidential candidates. The state says Virgil Goode got 383 write-ins and Tom Hoefling got 28. Read more »

Vermont Supreme Court Hears Justice Party Ballot Access Case on March 27

The Vermont Supreme Court will hear arguments in Anderson v State of Vermont, 2012-272, on March 27. The main issue is the method by which independent candidates must submit their signatures, compared to the easier method required for candidates petitioning for a place on a primary ballot. Justice Party files Opening Brief in Vermont Supreme Court in Ballot Access Case

Rocky Anderson filed this brief in the Vermont Supreme Court on February 19. The case is Anderson v State of Vermont, 2012-272. The issue is partly the state’s cumbersome signature-checking procedures, and partly the June deadline for petitions for independent presidential candidates to get on the November ballot.

The Justice Party had been planning to hold a national gathering February 22-24 in Oakland, California. However that meeting has been postponed until the autumn of 2013.

Florida Libertarian Party Files Financial Report with Wrong Office, Gets a Fine of $70,000

The Florida Secretary of State has fined the Florida Libertarian Party $70,000 because the party’s financial report was a week late. The party treasurer filed the report on time, but he filed it with the Federal Election Commission instead of the Florida Elections office. The party is appealing the fine. An administrative hearing is being held February 20. The party is being assisted in this matter by an attorney. Read more »

Justice Party Nominee for Utah Legislature Last Year Carried At Least Eight Precincts

Ty Markham, the Justice Party nominee in November 2012 for State House, 73rd district, was in a two-person race with the incumbent Republican, Michael Noel. She polled 28.01% in the district, which contains part or all of six rural counties in the southern end of the state. In Kane County, Markham carried five precincts, three of which are in or near the city of Kanab, and also the precinct that contains Bullfrog. One of the precincts that Markham carried is the precinct in which Noel lives. Read more »

New York State Posts Final 2012 Election Returns Tally; Presidential Vote Increases by 400,332 Votes

On December 31, the New York State Board of Elections posted the official November 2012 election returns. The final tally includes 400,332 votes that had not been counted when the state posted its tentative returns several weeks ago.

National Archives Web Page Has Copies of Certificates of Ascertainment and also Certificates of Electoral College Vote

The National Archives & Records Administration web page is posting copies of the 2012 Certificates of Ascertainment received from each state. This is a document that tells the total number of valid votes received by each candidate for presidential elector. The web page is also posting copies of each state’s electoral college vote, as the states submit them. See here.
