Ohio Secretary of State Says Four Minor Parties are on Ballot for 2013

On January 31, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted issued a directive stating that the Constitution, Green, Libertarian, and Socialist Parties are still on the ballot in Ohio, for calendar year 2013. There aren’t many partisan elections in Ohio in 2013, but a few cities have partisan elections. Constitution Party and Socialist Party Legislative Nominees in Indiana did Surprisingly Well

Indiana ballot access laws, since 1983, have been so restrictive, the Libertarian Party is generally the only party that appears on the ballot for statewide office and Congress. No other party, other than the two major parties, has appeared on the Indiana ballot for a statewide office since 2000, when Pat Buchanan petitioned as the Reform Party nominee.

All Votes for Presidential Candidates Who were on Ballot are Now Counted

On December 14, West Virginia and California state elections officials finished tallying the votes, so now all results are in, except that Alaska, the District of Columbia, Iowa, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming have not tallied any write-ins for any presidential candidates (although some of those states have tallied the total number of presidential write-ins). Michigan Releases Write-in Totals

On November 26, the Michigan Secretary of State released official election results, including write-in totals for President. Gary Johnson was credited with 7,774 write-ins, the highest number of write-ins ever recorded in Michigan for a presidential candidate in November. The previous record had been Ralph Nader in 1996, who was credited with 2,322 in Michigan.

New Jersey Socialist Party Secretary Elected to Regional High School Board of Education

On November 6, Pat Noble, who is 19 years old, was elected to the Red Bank Regional High School Board of Education. The high school is in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Noble defeated an incumbent, Nilsa Samol, by a margin of 53.6% to 46.4%. The high school is over a century old and is considered one of the state’s best high schools; see the wikipedia page about the school here.

Noble has been the Secretary of the New Jersey Socialist Party for several years. Read more »

Suffolk University Poll for Ohio Presidential Race Lists All Seven Candidates on the Ohio Ballot

On October 22, Suffolk University released a poll for the Ohio presidential race, which asks voters about all seven candidates listed on the ballot. The poll also asks what percentage of voters have heard of the various presidential candidates. See it here. Thanks to Mike for the link. There is so much publicity about Ohio being a crucial state, it is somewhat likely that the minor party vote in Ohio is depressed, relative to the vote in non-swing states. Read more »
