Florida Libertarian Party Files Financial Report with Wrong Office, Gets a Fine of $70,000

The Florida Secretary of State has fined the Florida Libertarian Party $70,000 because the party’s financial report was a week late. The party treasurer filed the report on time, but he filed it with the Federal Election Commission instead of the Florida Elections office. The party is appealing the fine. An administrative hearing is being held February 20. The party is being assisted in this matter by an attorney. Read more »

Presidential Vote Totals So Far

At least two states, Georgia and Wyoming, have released their official election returns for President (although Georgia hasn’t released write-in totals). A few other states have election web pages that continuously update, as more votes are counted; these states seem to be Alaska, Arizona, California, and Washington. Wyoming says there are 2,035 presidential write-ins, but the state web page doesn’t break them down. Read more »

Here is a pdf of most of page one of the November 2012 ballot from Palm Beach County, Florida. Florida has 12 presidential candidates on its ballot, the second-highest number of any state this year. Colorado has the most, sixteen.

Objectivist Party Expects to Place Presidential Ticket on Ballot in Two States

Sometime in 2010, at an event in St. Louis, the Objectivist Party nominated Thomas Stevens for President for the 2012 election. The 2012 vice-presidential nominee is Alden Link. The same pair ran in 2008, and received 755 votes in the entire nation. For the 2012 election, the ticket is already on the ballot in Colorado, and expects to be on in Florida.
