The Peace & Freedom Party is currently in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, asking that Peta Lindsay be restored to the party’s presidential primary ballot. The primary is June 5. Both sides in the lawsuit, Peace & Freedom Party v Bowen, have agreed to expedite the lawsuit. Assuming the judge agrees, all the briefs will be in by April 20. On April 9, the Alabama Constitution, Green, and Libertarian Parties filed this 9-page response brief in Stein v Chapman, 2:12cv-42. This is the case that challenges the March petition deadline for minor parties, at least as applied to presidential elections.

The South Dakota deadline for a party to submit its petition to be qualified was March 27. Both Americans Elect, and the Constitution Party, submitted petitions. The state hopes to have checked each petition within a week.
The Libertarian Party had turned in its petition several months ago, and its petition had been approved on February 28. Read more »

The Reform Party national presidential convention will be August 10-12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The party is ballot-qualified in Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Buddy Roemer, currently seeking the Americans Elect presidential nomination, recently received $185,470.11 in federal primary season matching funds. See this FEC presss release. He had previously received $100,000 in matching funds. So far no one else running for President this year has qualified.

Gary Johnson is speaking at the Worcester Rally. I gather he was also invited to the Boston Rally, which is Republican oriented and has some different speakers.

The Green Party had a presidential primary in Massachusetts on March 6. The Secretary of State has finally released the results, which are: Jill Stein 1,018; Kent Mesplay 89; Harley Mikkelson 84; “no preference” 232. There were also 95 write-ins, and 36 blank ballots.

On April 2, the Tennessee Secretary of State asked the 6th circuit to reverse the U.S. District Court and remove the Green Party and the Constitution Party from the 2012 ballot. The U.S. District Court had put them both on the ballot on February 3, on the basis that the ballot access law for newly-qualifying parties is unconstitutional and that these two plaintiff political parties had shown they have a modicum of support.
