In a piece on her campaign site blog, Boston Tea Party presidential candidate Tiffany Briscoe speaks out against coercive social conservatives. In a twist reminiscent of a recent controversy in the Libertarian Party presidential race, she touches on the subject of bestiality:

This election cycle is a crucial one. The destiny of the people of the United States and of the world will be seriously affected by whatever policies will the next administration operate. And we are in a time of crisis, we need not to deny this. What is happening in Europe currently is just an introduction to the larger financial disaster that might take place here in America were we to ignore the approaching signs and the reasonable theory that too much debt will lead to a national deficit that will make sure of the collapse of the global economy.

Yet, while the importance of this issue, altogether with the rise of a Police State in our current federal government, is crucial, some are still talking about protecting the “Juedo-Christian values” of the United States. In fact, the entire Republican field is plagued by moral regulators that believe there is a role for government to control our private lives. Abortion, same-sex relations, cultural diversity, the role of English as a language, and even bestiality are all social issues that have been raised by many candidates.

This should not be. In fact, it should be an accepted principle that the reason why our Founding Fathers never mentioned moral values in the Constitution is because they did not want to see a central bureaucracy take over the private lives of individuals. But many have lost this American belief in individualism and are now moved to claim that our theist forefathers were religious experts that intended the federal government to have much power in social issues.

This is why there are many talks of a federal “Sanctity of Life Act”, or Marriage Amendment to the Constitution. Some conservative candidates even want to reinstate the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy in the Army.

But millions of people are out of work. Millions of others are living under the level of poverty and are hit by inflation, high taxes, and social control on a daily basis. We are seeing Main Street ripped off by an alliance of Big Government and Big Business, while our children are being put in a failing educational system bound to hurt them more than anything else. Our federal government is growing larger every second, we’re killing hundreds with a devastating foreign policy combining sanctions and embargoes against innocent people and military attacks against unsure enemies, and the Police State is being implemented without any sign of reaction from the media.

And we’re talking about bestiality? Where in the Constitution does it say that the federal government has the power to regulate sexual relations? Some talk about morality, and the loss of Judeo-Christian values in America, but here is the truth. Our governments should never promote any sort of moral values, besides peace.

We live in the greatest country in the world and we are facing one of the most challenging crises in our history. The future of humanity relies on the example that we shall set in this election cycle. We need to focus on the serious issues, and not be lost in the dangers of the small, irrelevant, and possibly unconstitutional pipes of social regulation.

Each individual should be free to set his or her own set of principles to abide by. Some might use drugs today considered to be illegal, others might want to adhere to polygamy, while the rest will be divided between alcoholics, entrepreneurs, or scientists. As president, I will not try to implement any set of moral value for the entire nation, based on the simple fact that I don’t know
