Constitution Party Candidates Running for City Council in Utah

I received this email with the good news that Hans Anderson is running for Orem City Council this November. Hans has been treasurer for Jim Noorlander’s Congressional campaigns in the past and his father was H. Verlan Anderson who wrote some of the best books on proper principles of government.

We also have a few running for City Council in Duchesne and I am (David) running for Sandy City Council. Read more »

Arkansas Green Party gets Ready to Petition to Get Back on Ballot

The Arkansas Green Party has decided to collect signatures to get back on the ballot for 2012. The law requires the petition to be completed in 3 months. The party will seek its 10,000 valid signatures between September 3 and December 1, 2011. Meanwhile, the party is still waiting for the 8th circuit to issue an opinion in its lawsuit over the vote test for remaining on the ballot. It is conceivable that the petition won’t be needed. Americans Elect Bylaws Suggest Hope of Electoral College Negotiations

Irregular Times has made available the Americans Elect Bylaws, which can be read here. The Bylaws are interesting for several reasons. The founders of Americans Elect have made provision for the possibility that the Americans Elect presidential nominee will receive some electoral votes, and furthermore that no presidential candidate may end up with a majority of the electoral votes. Art Olivier Calls for New Approach to 9/11

Discussing foreign policy at Case Western University during the 2000 presidential campaign, I said, “It is not a question of if America would suffer a major terrorist attack because of our intervention in foreign affairs, but when we would be hit.” So when I first heard the slogan after 9/11 “they hate us for our freedom” it sounded absurd. Tennessee Constitution Party and Green Party File New Ballot Access Lawsuit

On July 19, the Green Party of Tennessee, and the Constitution Party of Tennessee, jointly filed a new lawsuit in federal court, alleging that the new ballot access law passed this year is just as unconstitutional as the old one. As reported previously, in September 2010 the old law was held unconstitutional. In response, the 2011 session of the legislature deleted the language on the petition saying the signers are members, and moved the petition deadline from March to April. Read more »

New Florida Ballot Access Law, Although Still Horrible, Is Not as Bad as Reported Earlier

Ballot Access News erred when it reported that the new Florida ballot access law for minor party presidential candidates requires a petition signed by 4% of the last presidential vote, unless the minor party is recognized by the Federal Election Commission. The bill was amended on the day before it passed the legislature, so that parties not recognized by the FEC as national committees need a petition of 1% of the number of registered voters.
