Gallup Poll Finds that 18% of Voters Don’t Want to Vote for Either Major Party in 2012 for President

On June 16, a Gallup Poll was released for the presidential election of 2012. It shows that 39% of voters desire to vote to re-elect President Obama, 44% desire to vote for whomever the Republican Party nominates, and 18% say “other” or are undecided. Read more »

Maryland Court Date Set in Libertarian-Green Ballot Access Case

A Maryland state circuit court in Annapolis will hear Libertarian Party & Green Party v Maryland State Board of Elections on Tuesday, June 21, at 1:30 p.m. This is the case over whether those two parties’ ballot access petitions for 2012 and 2014 are valid or not. Both parties’ petitions have enough valid signatures, if the law is not interpreted in a hyper-technical way. Read more »

WASHINGTON – June 17, 2011 is the 40th anniversary of America’s War on Drugs. Libertarian Party Chair Mark Hinkle issued the following statement today:

“On June 17, 1971, President Richard Nixon declared a ‘War on Drugs,’ which has become a relentless violation of the lives and property of Americans, including many who have never taken illegal drugs. These violations continue under President Barack Obama, an admitted former cocaine user who has shown no hesitation in throwing people into prison — a punishment he might have suffered had he been caught. Nevada Governor Signs Bill that Injures Ballot Access

On June 17, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed AB 81, one of the Secretary of State’s omnibus election law bills. Among other things, it moves the petition deadline for new parties from May to April. In 1986 a U.S. District Court in Nevada declared that state’s former April petition deadline for new party petitions to be unconstitutional. Read more »
