Goode considering seeking nomination to run for president

Virgil H. Goode Jr. of Rocky Mount, a former Virginia senator and U.S. congressman, said Friday he will consider seeking the Constitution Party’s nomination to run for president of the United States.

Goode said the Constitution Party’s national executive committee adopted a resolution at its April meeting in Harrisburg, Pa., urging him to seek the party’s nomination to run for president. Read more »

Politicians care about poor people. I know because they always say that. But then why do they make it so hard for the poor to escape poverty?

Outside my office in New York City, I see yellow taxis. It’s intuitive to think that government should license taxis to make sure they’re safe and to limit their number. It’s intuitive to believe that if anyone could just start picking up passengers, we’d have chaos. Read more »

Minor Parties Run More Legislative Candidates in New Jersey This Year Than in 2009

New Jersey elects its state legislators in odd years. This year, New Jersey’s active minor parties have more candidates for the Assembly (the lower house) than they did two years ago. Libertarians have candidates in four districts this year, whereas the party only had candidates in a single Assembly district in 2009. New York Releases Official Vote from Special U.S. House Election of May 24, 2011

New York State held a special U.S. House election on May 24, 2011, to fill the vacant 26th district seat. The official results by party: Democratic 42.77%; Republican 32.15%; Tea Party 9.03%; Conservative 8.18%; Working Families 4.67%; Independence 2.14%; Green 1.06%.

In November 2010, the results in this same seat had been: Republican 58.99%; Democratic 26.39%; Conservative 9.41%; Independence 5.21%. Read more »
